Gooey stories of Singaporean-Malay mythology
Fringe World 2017 - Summer Nights
State Theatre Centre of WA - Jan 20th - 9.30PM
From the makers of the highly acclaimed Asian Ghost-ery Store from last year’s Fringe World Summer Nights festival comes a new production SALTY.
Salty presents contemporary slants on the lurid demons of Singaporean-Malay mythology in the Studio Underground, State Theatre Centre of WA, as part of Summer Nights, the curated theatre program of FRINGE WORLD.
Creator Shannan Lim is a Melbourne-based multimedia artist and theatre-maker born in Singapore. He has lectured in film and digital media at the University of Western Australia and graduated with a Master of Design from RMIT. Shannan received the New Director Award at Nice International Film Festival, and two Melbourne Fringe Awards. Trained in clown at Ecole Philippe Gaulier and improvisation at The Second City, he is currently an ambassador for Melbourne Theatre Company and Multicultural Arts Victoria's CONNECT initiative.
The two-time Melbourne Fringe award-winner and his spook buddies Jayde Harding and Tye Norman produce three short, interconnected horror-comedy-drama plays as Salty.
Each part of Salty places a ghost of Singapore in a modernised context and deconstructs some ideas about cultural identity, masculinity and sexuality that its creator has experienced in both Asia and Australia.
